Improved sight lines

I was listening to the radio while I was driving in to work today and I had an advertisement for the new Washington National’s baseball stadium. In the announcement they listed three amenities and it was in this order: high def jumbotron, start of the art surround sound and improved sight lines. The first concern for anyone going to game shouldn’t be all of the technology, but the sight lines and how well they can see the game. Give me the game before you give me all the extra stuff. Baseball does not need to be disnified and made into a theme park experience. Baseball has been great throughout the years without technology, just add any fan of the minor leagues.

It’s the same way with the church today. Many churches today get caught up with programs, causes, worship styles, dress codes, etc. The most important thing is Jesus. If there is no Jesus then there is no church. The most important thing for the church is the sight lines and how it improves our vision and clarity of the cross. The persecuted church isn’t dying for a multi-media experience that makes them feel good about themselves, people are being martyred for the priceless blood that has obtained for them an eternal inheritance. There is lots of nice extra stuff for the American church today, but it’s all meaningless without the name and renown of Jesus

O Lord, we wait for you;
your name and remembrance
are the desire of our soul. (Isaiah 26:8)
