Casting Crowns

16 And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. (Matthew 19:16-22)

This world tells me possessions lead to happiness,
But I know that if possessions block my gaze
Of the perfect King who bled on a cross for me
Then materialism will keep me from true and lasting joy.

Without You, Oh Lord, my heart is filled with sorrow.
In you my life finds purpose and meaning.
I am desperate for you because you have transformed my life
And given me unimaginable riches and blessings.

You are the rock where my hope and joy is found.
I put off all covetousness so that I can live for you,
Eagerly looking forward to when I will cast my crowns before you
And sing with the redeemed songs of praise to You.

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”*

21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.  (Matthew 18:21-22)

At the cross I am made aware
Of your boundless grace towards me.
I was a rebel and revolted against the King,
But by Your blood I have been given pardon.

No longer in bondage I now live for freedom.
Bitterness and anger are no longer my master
My judgment of others has been liberated
So that I can view them with kindness.

The most High and Holy One has shown me mercy
Despite my countless sins and heinous attacks against His throne.
I am a recipient of unimaginable depths of love,
Therefore how can I not show that same love to all.

Political Prayer

who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:6-11)

Heavenly Father,

You are the sovereign Lord of lords and King of kings.  I place my hope and trust in you and not in any political figure or party. I take comfort in the fact that you harden and soften the hearts of sinful people and nothing will come to pass that you do not ordain or use for your glory.  No president or representative would have power unless you gave it to them.  You are the one who sits enthroned above all.  I commit my trust to you knowing that whatever will pass will be your sovereign ordained means that will work for your glory and my good.

I place my hope in you alone because if you can use the wickedness of evil rulers in Jesus day, sending Him to the cross so that I might have redemption from my sins, then I am confident you can work all things for my good.  Jesus did not come to set up an earthly kingdom, that  would only disappoin, instead He made a way to His eternal kingdom for sinners bought by His blood.

Let Your Spirit always remind me of your coming kingdom.  My hope is be with You in Heaven where we will not look to elected officials, but to you.  My hope is for Christ second coming when everyone from the least to the greatest will bow before Him and acknowledge His majesty.  Jesus, come soon for your bride.  Rule so that all the earth can see and confess You as Lord to the glory of God the Father.

My Reward

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”17:1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. (Matthew 16:24-17:3

In you Lord Jesus I have found my life
Daily I carry my cross and deny myself
So that I can forsake this world
By following you and setting my eyes on eternity.

You have given me a hope for glory
And that is where my gaze lies
As I eagerly await the day
When I am made like You.

It is foolishness to those here
When they see me die to self
And lay down my desires for your name,
But I know that my reward is above
And nothing in this world can compete.

God of compassion

The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, [1] forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped. (Exodus 34:5-8)

God of compassion and grace,
You knew that those made in your image
Would forsake you and choose sin,
So before there was time you elected some
To be adopted into your family,
Not on the status of mercy,
But only by your mercy.

I find myself lost in mercy
At the indescribable gift I have
Of salvation through Jesus blood.

I owe it all to your kindness,
You did not have to reach down to me.
There was no good reason for you to choose me.

You were rich beyond measure
But became poor and took the form of a servant
So that I might be able to draw near
And experience the fullness of God,
For my eyes have been opened
To see the invitation to come and worship,
As I draw near I am made rich.

Christ in compassion, laid down His life for me,
Giving me access to the riches of His grace
Making a way for redemption, through His blood
And full forgiveness of sins to all who repent.

I have the inheritance of one day seeing Him as He is.
On that day I shall be glorified in His kingdom.
With sin no longer to tarnish me
I will praise Him forever and ever.

Echoes of Calvary

He brought me to the banqueting house,
and his banner over me was love.  (Song of Solomon 2:4)

Nothing speaks louder than the cross.
Echoes of calvary shout mercy and justice,
All else is drowned out
By God’s love song to me.

As I live under the shadow of the cross
His banner over me is love.
Divine love has conquered sin
So that I may be a child of mercy.

As blood flowed down from hands and feet
By the One who drank the cup meant for me
Holy justice has been satisfied
So that I may live in a state of grace
With the hope of being in glory with you.
