It’s a Different World For Mother’s

Currently I am studying 1 Samuel and the commentary that I am reading had this interesting tidbit about when Hannah probably weaned Samuel

Weaning in ancient Near Eastern societies took place at a much later date than it does in today’s world, particularly in the west. It would have been rare for a child to be weaned before the age of three, and a child could be five or even older before being fully weaned. Samuel was very young but had probably grown beyond the stage of being a toddler.

The Glorification of God and the Humility of Man

All we have we have from God as the fountain, and in and through Christ as the channel of conveyance. He is made of God to us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption: all we need, or can desire. We are foolishness, ignorant and blind in the things of God, with all our boasted knowledge; and he is made wisdom to us. We are guilty, obnoxious to justice; and he is made righteousness, our great atonement and sacrifice. We are depraved and corrupt; and he is made sanctification, the spring of our spiritual life; from him, the head, it is communicated to all the members of his mystical body by his Holy Spirit. We are in bonds, and he is made redemption to us, our Saviour and deliverer. Observe, Where Christ is made righteousness to any soul, he is also made sanctification. He never discharges from the guilt of sin, without delivering from the power of it; and he is made righteousness and sanctification, that he may in the end be made complete redemption, may free the soul from the very being of sin, and loose the body from the bonds of the grave: and what is designed in all is that all flesh may glory in the Lord. Observe, It is the will of God that all our glorifying should be in the Lord: and, our salvation being only through Christ, it is thereby effectually provided that it should be so. Man is humbled, and God glorified and exalted, by the whole scheme.

-Matthew Henry on 1 Corinthians 1

God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

(1 Corinthians 1:28-31 ESV)

Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me
Oh Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You“

Help Me Improve The Lives of Children With Cancer

Dear Friends and Family,

In 2010 I ran my first marathon, the Baltimore Marathon, as a member of charity group Cool  Kids Campaign.  I am currently preparing to run the Baltimore Marathon for a second time, once again with the Cool Kids Campaign.  The Cool Kids Campaign website is http://www.coolkidscampaign.org/

The mission of the Cool Kids Campaign to is provide kids with cancer and their families with a higher quality of life while facing the challenges of cancer.  All of the money that I raise will go to supporting the Cool Kids Learning Center which opened in the fall of 2011.

The vision for the facility reinforces what we have always set out to do: remember that kids are kids whether they are healthy or sick! Kids just want to fit in and have fun, and our sincerest hope is that the Learning Center will be a safe, secure foundation on which to build their lives after cancer.

Mission and Goals of the Learning Center
The core focus of the Learning Center will be to address the academic and social implications of childhood cancer. Our primary goals are to:

  • Provide educational support for kids so they continue to perform and re-enter school at grade level.
  • Make available the social and extracurricular activities lost to the disease during these formative years.

Being a new father this cause means a lot to me.  I can’t even begin to fathom what it would be like if Miya was diagnosed with cancer.  This is the reason why I chose to support The Cool Kids Campaign, they come alongside families in tough times to helps kids who are fighting for their lives.

I am asking that you take time to prayerfully consider helping me raise support for The Cool Kids Campaign.  I have the privilege to run and although I may never find a cure for cancer I can use my hobby of running to make a difference in the lives of kids battling cancer, but not without your help.  Running 26.2 miles will be a tough task and it will be a sacrifice to carve out the time to train, but my sacrifice is nothing compared to that which families who have kids with cancer make everyday.  Thank you for sacrificing your time to read this and if you are interested in making a monetary sacrifice you can do it here:
